UPD has 158 authorized positions including 78 state certified Police Officers, 54 Security Officers, 13 Communications Officers, 8 administrative support personnel, and 5 Records Technicians. The department maintains a fully staffed investigations division, a crime prevention unit, a recruiting unit, a training division, a victim advocate, and an Emergency Communications Center. Please visit us at: What we want The Police Communications Officer in Training, under supervision, receives on-the-job training from Police Communication Officers; handles routine and emergency radio, telephone, and 911 calls for service following special or written instructions for transmitting and routing calls. What you need to know Pay Rate: Starting hourly rate is $18.10 I mportant Position Details: Applicants must successfully pass psychological evaluation, drug screen, and complete background investigation to include, but not limited to driving history, criminal background, and credit history. Applicants must pass a timed typing test with a score of 35 words per minute. Applicants must also pass a Critical Multitasking Dispatch Test. Required Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience Two years full-time employment or military service Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others Public relations skills Keyboarding skills Other Requirements or Other Factors: Applicant must successfully pass psychological evaluation, drug screen, and complete background investigation to include, but not limited to driving history, criminal background, and credit history Flexibility to work rotating shifts and holidays Ability to work under stress Ability to comprehend technical aspects of communications equipment Applicants must pass a typing test with a score of 35 words per minute Applicants must also pass a Critical Multitasking Dispatch Test Preferred Education and Experience: Vocational or college courses in mass communications Previous experience as a dispatcher in law enforcement/911 service Preferred Licenses and Certifications: ~ TCOLE certification as a telecommunications operator Responsibilities: Successful completion of the 16 week Communications Officer Training Program, which includes Texas Penal Code, Traffic Code, the use of telecommunications equipment, and the use of a Computer Aided Dispatch system Familiarization with the University and Departmental policies, and TLETS/NLETS and TCIC/NCIC operations and policies Operates data terminals for the National Crime Information Center and Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems for the University Police Department Receives incoming telephone calls from the general public, disseminates information for emergency personnel, and monitors telecommunications equipment Familiarization with the geography of Texas A&M University (i.e. buildings, streets, major departments and University Personnel) Monitors and responds to activation of alarm systems by coordinating with all appropriate agencies and personnel and performs other duties as assigned Why Texas A&M University?
